About Koen
For most of my career I worked in the international development and humanitarian sector with the United Nations. My work took me into complex environments, including peacekeeping operations and high-pressure assignments. In 2013 I experienced the Westgate terrorist attack in Nairobi, followed six months later by an armed robbery in my home where I was shot in the leg. After these events I developed post-traumatic stress.
My mind replayed the events constantly. My body stayed on high alert. Sleep became difficult. Eventually I worked with an NLP practitioner who helped me begin calming my system again.
That experience sparked a deep interest in how the mind processes stress and trauma.
Over the years I trained in:
- Clinical Hypnotherapy
- Rapid Transformational Therapy
- NLP (Practitioner & Master Practitioner)
- Rapid Transformational Coaching
- Somatic and mindfulness-based approaches
Today I use these tools to support development and humanitarian professionals who are experiencing stress, anxiety, or trauma responses from their work environments.
